Summer Fun: Karate In San Marcos & Carlsbad
Summer is here and it can be tough for parents to find great activities to keep kids and teens busy during this time away from school. At TeamMAI, we think taking classes for karate in San Marcos or Carlsbad should definitely be high on your list.
Karate is an activity that improves both mind and body. Not only will classes for karate in San Marcos or Carlsbad provide plenty of exercise, learning karate techniques improves flexibility, balance and coordination. We also teach confidence, respect and discipline, which have lifelong benefits. Karate classes can help children improve their self-control and improve their self-esteem.
If you are searching for karate in San Marcos, we are located in the West Bluff Plaza Shopping Center just minutes away from San Marcos in Carlsbad. We have many students from San Marcos, as well as from Carlsbad and Encinitas. Classes are organized by age and ability level and we can take students as young as four years of age all the way up to adulthood.
In addition to karate classes, you also might consider signing up for a summer day camp. The cities of Carlsbad and San Marcos both offer a variety of interesting day camps and summer classes. Generally, these are fairly affordable and you can sign up your kids whether you live within the city limits or not, although residents usually pay a bit less for these classes and camps. Also, many local libraries offer summer reading programs and other free activities, so take a look at what your community offers.
You also can create your own summer camp at home filled with different types of crafts and activities. For instance, you could have a weeklong home camp with a natural history theme and end the week with a trip to the San Diego Natural History Museum at Balboa Park. You could also do a week about space and go to the San Diego Air & Space Museum or perhaps spend time learning about the ocean and visit local tide pools and the Scripps Aquarium.
Of course, everything doesn’t have to be perfectly planned. You can head out to the park or the beach at a moment’s notice and spend a few hours enjoy the waves or taking a hike through a local natural area. Consider combining a hike with a scavenger hunt and have kids collect leaves, twigs, rocks and other items or even do a photography scavenger hunt and have them snap pictures of animals or other interesting items.
When you do head back to school, keep in mind that the instructors at TeamMAI run after-school programs at many local schools in Carlsbad and in San Marcos. In Carlsbad, we have programs at nine public elementary schools as well as Carlsbad Country Day Preschool. For karate in San Marcos, we offer instruction after school at Carrillo Elementary School. Our after-school kids also are allowed to attend a special free Saturday class from 12:25 p.m. to 1 p.m. at our Team MAI dojo.
