Meet North County’s Coolest Karate Instructors!
Martial Arts International Karate Dojo opened nearly 25 years ago in Carlsbad California at the Crazy Burro Shopping Center. Since then, Team MAI has been producing World Champion Martial Artist and building students who have lead the KARATE lifestyle of Honor, Respect, Courtesy and a “Never Give Up” Attitude.
Two of those students are still there today! After getting their Black Belts under MAI Founder, Sensei Jeff Clark, and moving on to become Sensei’s themselves, Sensei Jerry Uribe & Sensei Aaron LoBell are still teaching Karate and passing down the knowledge of Karate that they once received.
Sensei LoBell and Sensei Jerry have now been teaching Karate at MAI for over 15 years and have also expanded their classes to San Marcos!
Here’s a little Bio on the Senseis…
Sensei LoBell is a 4th degree Black Belt under MAI and the owner and head instructor of the Martial Arts International (MAI) dojo. He is a former USA World Champion and IMAC National Champion and also has trained numerous years in Brazilian Jujitsu and Kickboxing. Sensei LoBell has trained World Champions and National Champions, including members of our staff and tournament team. He has organized and taughtself-defense seminars to charitable organizations and business professionals in the community. Sensei LoBell is also involved in teaching karate in 10 local elementary schools throughout the Carlsbad area. Since achieving his Early Childhood Development Certificate in 2010, he has been honored to be the Director of the Martial Arts program at Carlsbad Country Day School. In 2013, Sensei LoBell was proud to announce the opening of a 2nd location. MAI teamed with the Boys/Girls Club of Oceanside and has a school located within their facility. He believes it is very important to capture and maintain a high level of interest in his students, regardless of age. Sensei LoBell’s easy-to-understand analogies provide an ideal and enjoyable learning environment.
Sensei Jerry Ryan Uribe received his Black Belt at MAI under Sensei Jeff Clark in 2003. Today he holds a third degree black belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate under MAI as well as a first degree Black belt in Taekwondo. Sensei Jerry has been involved in martial arts for 25 years, starting when he was just five years old. He has experience in Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, boxing and kickboxing. Sensei Jerry has been teaching at MAI since 2003, leading the sparring programs and tournament team from 2004-2009. Currently, Sensei Jerry holds world titles in the IMAC, NASKA and NBL competition leagues; has competed in Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and kickboxing. In addition to teaching, competing and a full time corporate career, he also sponsors and manages a professional Karate team that tours the United States competing in the country’s toughest tournaments. His team is powered by Project HERO, a non-profit organization geared toward providing leaders and role models to youth ages 17 years and under. His goals are simple, to give back the same leadership that he was fortunate to receive by his teachers and mentors.
Sensei Jeff Clark founded MAI, formerly International Karate Organization, at its current location in 1995 and has shared his knowledge of martial arts worldwide. Sensei Clark is a former U.S. karate champion with a 5th degree Black Belt under IKO and a 2nd degree Black Belt under U.S.K.O. He also has a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and received certification in Kobudo (Okinawan weaponry).
Sensei Clark’s passion for competition has drawn him to Mixed Martial Arts (teaching, coaching and training). He is undefeated in Mixed Martial Arts and is presently the President / CEO of NCFC Fight Management, a premier fight management firm in the Mixed Martial Arts industry.
