Karate & Jiu Jitsu In Carlsbad & Other Summer Activities
While summer is meant to be a time of relaxation, kids and teens these days often spend too much of their vacation time parked on the couch with electronic devices. If you are having trouble finding a few easy (and inexpensive) ways to provide alternative activities for your kids, we have a few helpful suggestions.
Obviously, as a karate school, we put physical activity at the top of the list. Signing your kids up for our karate classes or perhaps judo or jiu jitsu in Carlsbad is a great idea. This provides an excellent source of exercise and it’s a great way to meet new friends in the local area.
If you aren’t certain if karate or jiu jitsu in Carlsbad is the right option for your child or teen, we offer a free two-week trial here at Team MAI. Our focus is on karate instruction and we have classes for children as young as four years all the way up through high school.
Our karate classes typically take place in the late afternoon and evenings, and this is typical of many other karate schools as well as facilities for tae kwon do and jiu jitsu in Carlsbad. To fill up your daytime schedule, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad offers summer day camps for elementary, middle and high school students. At less than $200 per week, this is one of the most affordable day camp options, and the camps are open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., which is great for working parents. More information and links to the weekly schedules are available on the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad website.
If you aren’t interested in a day camp, check out the Boys and Girls Club summer camp calendar anyway. This showcases a wide range of fun activities that you might wish to enjoy with your child or teen and perhaps some of their friends. For instance, one of the activities is a hike to Potato Chip Rock near Ramona. Pack a picnic lunch and this could be a great day trip for you and the kids. Another interesting excursion is a trip to see the shipwreck of the SS Monte Carlo on Coronado Island. You can spend the day enjoying Coronado Shores Beach and at low tide, take a look at the remains of this old ship.
Going to the beach is always a fun, relatively inexpensive way to get kids and teenagers out of the house enjoying some sunshine and activity. Obviously, San Diego has a plethora of great beaches and you could make it your family’s mission to visit as many as possible during the summer break. If it’s a swimming pool you seek, check out the Alga Norte Aquatic Center or the Monroe Street Pool. Both charge nominal fees for admission, but it’s wise to check the City of Carlsbad website to learn when recreation swim times are available.
Another fun option might be to head to the Oceanside Sunset Market or the Carlsbad Village Farmers’ Market and have your kids pick out some fresh veggies and fruits. From there, grab some cookbooks at the library and have them plan out some meals using these ingredients. This could be a weekly excursion and activity and good way to teach kids about nutrition and how to cook for themselves.
For a special trip, consider driving out to Julian and checking out the gold mine tours and sampling some of the town’s famous apple pie. Another fun day trip might be to Belmont Park, which offers amusement park rides, miniature golf, an Escape room and tons of places to eat and shop. Of course Balboa Park is another great option with all of its museums and the San Diego Zoo. These can be great weekday trips as all of these attractions can be packed on weekends.
Those are just a few suggestions to consider in addition to karate or jiu jitsu in Carlsbad. If you are interested in our karate classes, feel free to give us a call at any time to set up a tour of our facilities.
